South African women married to Nigerians came together on Monday and threatened to stage a protest in Johannesburg, South Africa against what they term their marginalization, their Nigerian husbands and children by South African government. According to them, South African government have not taken their marriage relationships to Nigerians serious. They perceive them as having different motives and therefore tend to marginalize and stigmatize them in so many areas. These women are not happy with the way things are going have made so many protests in the past all to no avail. Now, they are taking the bull by the horn.
Lindelwa Uche made this known in Johannesburg Sunday during the launch of United Nigerian wives in South Africa (UNWISA). She is chairperson of the new union and she stated that ''Our society does not take our marriages serious; they see our marriages as relations of convenience and perceive us as evil to the society''. Continuing, she said ''All of us are South Africans married to Nigerians living in South Africa. We decided to come together to fight against stigmatization, discrimination and humiliation against our families by government departments, agencies and officials of the government, the community and our in-laws''. The leader of the association, Uche stated that after getting legal backing to this association, the protest will change in its dynamics. They will take the protest to home office affairs in south Africa. She added '' If cannot stand up and fight for the right of our husbands and children when they are violated and being treated shabbily by the government and citizens alike, who will?''
