Mourners defied the rainfall to gather this Tuesday for the memorial service of late Nelson Mandela in Soweto, South Africa.

Presidents of many countries, foreign dignitaries and thousands of South Africans were in attendance at the memorial service.

Thousands of South Africans and more than 90 heads of state gathered to honor the revered leader, who died Thursday, December 5, at age 95.

Nelson Mandela died last week after a prolonged sickness associated with lung infections.
