Real Madrid celebrating their victory over Barcelona |
Real Madrid has taken advantage of early goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Christian Ronaldo and most importantly early sending off of Adriano to beat FC Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu. The visitors lost concentration immediately Adriano was red carded for tripping Ronaldo as he was about to race clear on goal keeper Victor Valdes in the 28th minutes. However, Lionel Messi did not fail to add his name on the score sheet as he curled home a thrilling free kick just before the half time. The match ended 2:1 in favour of the host, the Real Madrid. They both have 4:4 aggregate but Madrid has advantage of scoring two away goals in their first leg. It is also worthy of note that both Alex song and Luka Modric debuted in the competition.
