Prof. Barth Nnaji |
Professor Barth Nnaji has resigned his appointment as the Nigerian Minister for power and the resignation is with immediate effect. This move which at first instance appears to have been done based on his personal volition is a soft landing approach which emanated from the presidency. Prof. Barth Nnaji has been overseeing the privatization of Nigerian Power sector but has recently been alleged to have involved himself in some shady practices as it affects privatization of the Nigeria Power sector. The team that spearheaded this was disbanded. But it was later learnt that Prof. Barth Nnaji has an interest
in it Afam generating plant which is located in Rivers state. The companies that submitted their bids for Afam may include Skipper Nigeria Limited, Primeniza energy limited, NPG Consortium but in is unclear which of them is linked to him.

The whole incident started when Prof. Barth Nnaji was having a meeting with the Labour executives at about 5pm. He received a telephone call from the presidency and this prompted him to leave the venue. Afterwards, the special adviser to the presidency on media, Dr. Reuben Abati issued a press release that Prof. Nnaji has resigned from his position and that President Goodluck Jonathan has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. Here him: ''President Goodluck Ebere Jonathan has accepted the resignation with immediate effect of Minister for Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji.
