The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, south south Nigeria Mr. Nsima Ekere has resigned from office. He announced his resignation at the dusk of October 31 after he reliably gathered that the move to impeach him has been perfected. However, his press Inemesit Ina who signed his letter maintained his Superior resigned on personal ground after serving the people of Akwa Ibom state for a year and five months. He wished the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio well for giving him the opportunity to serve.

Nevertheless, the move has a political inclination as resigning honorably is not common in Nigeria public service even if such person commits an offence worthy of sending him to prison through legal process. According to a reliable source, the deputy governor has an intention of succeeding Governor Akpabio come 2015 but this did not go down well with the incumbent governor who has already strategized to put his men in his stead come 2015. When the deputy Governor's clandestine move became unquestionably known, the Governor resorted to mobilizing support to impeach him so that he would be irrelevant in 2015. To avoid this scenario, he has to resign with immediate effect so that he can have the opportunity to contest in 2015.
