Sunday Udoh, an Okada rider based in Ikeja area of Lagos state stripped himself naked yesterday when he was caught by the Lagos state task force for Environmental and Special offences. Immediately he was caught, he removed his clothes in the public glare probably to attract sympathy unto himself. This resulted to traffic build up since the task force just allowed him to do his own thing. He eventually said he did it unknowingly because he was overtaken by shock According to him, the bike was under hire purchase of N45,000 and he has a wife and children to carter for. At the end of the day, the Chairman of the task force reiterated that his team will ever remain undeterred in their bid enforce the new traffic law.
New traffic law was passed by the Lagos state House of Assembly recently and the new law placed a ban on 475 routes for Okada riders. Okada riders especially those who will always try to break the laws are always driving in fear as task force closes in on them. Yesterday at Yaba area of Lagos, I saw a Police pick up truck with once officer at the back and the one at the back would always jump down to accost any Okada sighted driving along Herbert Macaulay way. However, once the Rider is Policeman, no wahala, he would be left alone.
