New Traffic Law: Over Zealous Police Officer shoots Okada Rider

The peace and serenity of Coker area of Ilupeju Lagos was tampered with yesterday as an over zealous police officer shot an okada rider who wanted to evade being arrested. Trouble started when the police  officer whose name was given as Yemi  intercepted the Okada rider ( Adigun Atilola) and his passenger near  Teju bus stop.

According to report, the passenger jumped down from the bike while the rider wanted to escape but was dragged backwards by the police officer. In his bid to exercise ''Do you want to try me'' authority, he shot the okada rider at the lower, right side of the abdomen and the bullet escaped through the other side.
The Policemen hurriedly disappeared from the scene immediately. The incident threw the vicinity into pandemonium as passers-by attempted to take laws into their hands. This  resulted to traffic gridlock along Ilupeju by-pass. Only  the intervention of combined team of policemen from various divisions in Ilupeju and its environs  prevented the mob action from escalating seeing that they wanted to burn down Ilupeju Police station.  Recently, Lagos state government banned Okada riders from plying 475 routes across the state.

Personal Opinion: This new traffic law has given greater empowerment to the law enforcement agencies to make quick money. They are only after the money they will collect from their victims. If the rider is a security personnel, no problem. They are not sincere at all. I equally noticed that Okada riders now have more accidents because they lack composure on wheel  because of  fear of being caught.
