It is very common to see world presidents living in ostentatious buildings, being chauffeured in highly expensive automobiles. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan lives in Aso Villa, highly fortified, uses state of the art bullet proof automobile; David Cameron lives in 10 Downing Street, Barack Obama lives in the white house. french President, Francois Hollande lives in Elysee Palace

President of France lives in Elysee Palace. It has garden and what have you. These presidents do not live in lack from all indications. They live far above the electorate who put them in these official residences.
But story is different when it comes to president of Uruguay who live in his farm house with his wife, drives a 1987 Volkswagen beetle (worth $1,800). He gives 90% of his monthly salary ($12,000) to charity. He rejected the cozy apartment given to him by the people of Uruguay and opted for his farm house.

' I'm called the poorest president; but I don't feel poor. Poor people are those who work hard only to try to keep expensive lifestyle; and always want more and more' Mujica opined. 'This is matter of freedom. If you don't have many possessions, then you don't need to work all your life like a slave to sustain them; and therefore, you have more time for yourself'.
Mujica was elected in 2009 as Uruguay president after staying 14 years in prison custody. He formerly belonged leftist group, Tupamaros during Uruguay dictatorship era.
