The Chairman of Nigerian Population Commission and former Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr.Festus Odumegwu has revealed that the forthcoming 2016 census will cost Nigeria a whopping sum of N600 billion tax payers money. He lamented the lack of credible census figure for a country like Nigeria and heaped the blame on many years of bad governance and misrule, which has given rise to high insecurity, kidnapping, robbery, unemployment and so on. Mr Odumegwu made this known during the unveiling of United Nation's State of World Population report 2012. The Bio metric data machine will harmonize all such projects conducted by various agencies of the government before now.
He also added that President Goodluck Jonathan has approved of the said amount which will empower them to do a demographic data as the foundation of the whole exercise. He was disappointed to hear various figures as the population of Nigeria. Some say 170 million, others say 156 million and many others maintain 200 million. Their plan is to have a unique and reliable figure /database for the country.
