Mr. Clifford Ihezukwu and Mrs Eberechi Ihezukwu have lost their new born baby boy to kidnappers at a maternity home in Nkwoegwu in Umuahia, Abia state. The new born baby was a potential target to the dare devil kidnappers going by the way the incident happened. According to Clifford, his wife Eberechi told him she was going to Our lady of apostle, Nkwoegwu ohuhu, her usual maternity home for child birth. Later, she called him asking for his consent before hot drip could be administered to her for quick labour. After giving his consent and the baby arrived, while the doctors and nurses were trying hard to control her bleeding, armed kidnappers just appeared from nowhere and took away the baby wrapped in her blanket. It was like a dream but their prayer is that they will still lay their hands on the baby someday. Clifford was astound that he was seized by the police when he reported the matter to them. He was detained between Tuesday and Thursday until he bailed himself with the sum of N15,000.
Expatiating, Clifford stated that he left the food he was cooking and left for the hospital to see his wife. When he got to the hospital, he met his sister in-law who was rejoicing over their new arrival. She told him that the wife has put to bed, He thanked God and later went back home to finish what he was cooking. Shortly afterwards, the sister in-law came back home shouting 'my stomach, my stomach'. He inquired what the matter was and she narrated how armed kidnappers launched attack in the hospital over powering the security men and nurses, kicking her Tommy in the process and collecting the new born baby. He rushed back to the hospital and discovered that policemen have besieged the premises. They asked him to come the following day and make official statement. The following day, while he was busy attending to his children and wife with the hope of going to the police station later, some policemen came to his house and asked why he has not come to the station. He explained his story. On getting to the station later, he was asked to remove this clothes and prepare to go into the cell on the ground of being the number one suspect in the whole incident. He and the sister in-law were placed inside the cell. Also invited were the owner of the maternity home, Mrs Mbaekwe and her husband. both were later released the same day while Clifford's release was delayed. The policemen on duty handed over to another set of policemen. When he asked the new policemen 'how far?' They said that no body has come for him. At the end of everything, he collected N8000 from his pocket hung outside the cell and bailed himself with the promise of completing the remaining N5000 later. After coming out the cell, he borrowed money to pay the balance.
The wife Eberechi has vowed that whoever has taken her baby will not know peace until the baby is released to her.
