Life in Slum in Makoko Area of Lagos State

There is no doubt that accommodation in Lagos metroplolis is very costly. And coupled with the fact that the population density of Lagos State is extremely high, poor residents especailly the Ijaw tribes have no other choice than to live on top of  Lagos waters in the Makoko area of the State.

The people here basically keep their bodies and souls together getting their source of livelihood through fishing business. They even have market where people can go and buy anything they like and all is located on top of water of near the bank.

Men travel by canoe in the floating slum which sits on the waterfront
Men going out for fishing, seeing  there also is the longest bridge in west Africa. It is call the Third Mainland Bridge which tower several kilometers above water
These part of these structures were destroyed by Lagos State government some months Ago which led to so many people being displaced.
