Nigerian Banks Can Now Accept INEC's Voter's Card As Means of Identification--Central bank of Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday directed Nigerian Banks to start accepting Voter's Card genuinely issued by Independent National Electoral Commission as means of identification for their numerous customers. The Circular issued to the Banks was titled '' Inclusion of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC's voter's card as means of Customer identification'' The circular equally added that ''Further to our circular on money laundering/counter financing terrorism (AML/CFT), regulation 2009 as acceptable means of identification for the purpose of account opening and and transaction of banking business in Nigeria, it has become necessary as a result of need to enhance financial inclusion  to extend means of acceptable identification options. Accordingly, all banks and financial institutions are hereby advised to accept INEC's registration card duly issued by INEC bearing the holders particulars such as name, photograph, date of birth and address as valid means of identification of natural persons for the purpose  conducting banking business in Nigeria''
