The television debate between two front line presidential aspirants, incumbent president Barrack Obama of Democratic Party and Mitt Romney of Republican party has ended with analyst maintaining that Mitt Romney gave Obama 46%-67% margin while Obama trailed behind with 22% -25% margin. Commentator said Mitt Romney appeared in command while Obama was rather hesitant. The debate revolved around Tax matters, Health care, and the deficits. Before now, opinion poll carried out in the six swing state showed that Obama was more popular than Mitt Romney but this debate has increased Mitt Romney's chances of clinching the ticket come November 6.2012. BBC Mark Mardell said that if the pool gap narrows, it will boost Mitt Romney's chances but if it bulges, it will be a deep trouble for him.
The two candidates appeared offensive on each other's economic policies. While Obama describes Mitt Romney's economic policies as Bush-era policies, Mitt Romney described Obama's Policies as 'trickle -down government'. Obama said ''If you think by closing (tax) loopholes ,and deductions from well -to-do, somehow, you will not end up picking up the tab, then Governor Romney Plans may work for you'' '' But I think maths, common sense and our history shows that is not a good recipe for job growth''. On the other hand, Mitt Romney said ''The President has a view which is very similar to the one he had when he ran for office four years ago. That spending more, taxing more, regulating more- If you will, trickle down government-would work''.
