The overflowing River Niger has taken its toll on the indigenes of Anambra sate especially those living very close to the River Niger. Worst hit is the Ogbaru  local government area where the water level has continued to increase even though there is no rainfall. Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi and his assessment  team arrived Osamalla community in Anambra state leaving behind them the independence celebration. So many residents have since parked out the flooded community but one  woman and her baby were very unlucky as they lost their lives when their house collapsed.

Members of the Governor's team were drawn from National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA), National security and Civil Defence Corp, Police , Army and so on. 'The situation is terrible; people can no longer go about their normal businesses; people can no longer go to church, market and so on' lamented a friend that I called. People who have factories have left their machines at the mercy of the flood. When I put a call to his phone he replied he was inside the water trying to know whether he could salvage  few items before escaping from the deadly zone. It is an evolving catastrophe.

Those evacuated by the government are being resettled at the 302 Artillary Regiment Onitsha in Anambra state where army is assisting in the resettlement.
